Africa HIV/AIDS Research Database
The Africa HIV/AIDS Research Database (Africa HARD) is a WANGONeT (West African NGO Network) initiative to complement the ongoing continent-wide response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It is a unique and indigenous attempt at integrating continent-wide data, views, opinions, debates and facts about this all important public health issue with the more traditional and pervasive Western views on the matter.
African Aids Initiative International (AAII)
The African Aids Initiative International (AAII) is an international non-profit organization based at Harvard University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. AAII is dedicated to promoting HIV/AIDS awareness in Africa by scaling up nation-wide prevention efforts and improving the lives of persons infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
African Network for Strategic Communication in Health and Development
The African Network for Strategic Communication in Health and Development (AfriComNet) is an association of HIV and AIDS, health and development communication practitioners who reside, work, or have a primary interest in Africa. Formerly known as the Regional HIV and AIDS Behaviour Change Communication Network (BCC Network), friComNet was established in October 2001 in recognition of the severity of the continent’s HIV and AIDS pandemic and the need for high-quality strategic communication to respond to the crisis.
Africa Population Health Research Center (APHRC)
APHRC is an international non-profit and non-governmental organisation with headquarters in Kenya. The Center’s mission is to promote the well being of Africans through policy-relevant research on population and health.
African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF)
AMREF is a health development organisation with offices in Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda as well as field offices in Somalia and Sudan. AMREF’s mission is to improve the health of disadvantaged people in Africa as a means for them to escape poverty and improve the quality of their lives. Its work includes focus on HIV/AIDS.
AIDS and Rights Alliance for Southern Africa (ARASA)
ARASA is a Namibian based network of African organisations working on HIV/AIDS and human rights that provides an ongoing forum for the sharing of ideas, experience, materials and expertise on human rights, law and policy.

AIDS Law Unit
The primary objective of the AIDS Law Unit (ALU), established in 1999, is to promote a human rights based response to HIV/AIDS in Namibia, focusing on both the infringement of civil and political rights on the basis of HIV status and the denial of socio-economic rights that contributes to vulnerability to HIV and negatively impacts on health outcomes.
Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders on HIV/AIDS in Africa (AMICAALL)
The Alliance was established to promote an expanded, multisectoral response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic at the local level. National chapters of the Alliance have been launched in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Cote d`Ivoire, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Botswana Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS (BONEPWA)

Centre for International Cooperation in Health and Development: AIDS and Africa
The CCISD is a Canadian non-profit corporation specialising in the design and management of international health projects. The CCISD’s mission is to contribute to improving the health of the most destitute communities, through the reinforcement of health sector resources and their partnering community groups. Activities include the Francophone Africa AIDS Program and West Africa AIDS Project.
Centre Muraz: HIV and Associated Diseases
Located in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.Centre Muraz is one of the research centers of the Organization for Coordination and Cooperation Against Endemic Diseases (OCCGE). Founded in 1960, the organization is an expression of the will of eight French-speaking countries of West Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d`Ivoire, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo) to unite their efforts to reduce the burden of transmissible diseases of the region.
Commonwealth Regional Health Community (CRHC)
CRHC encourages cooperation in health among fourteen countries in East, Central, and Southern Africa through capacity building, policy and advocacy, research and evaluation, and information sharing.
Communities Responding to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic (CORE Initiative)
The CORE Initiative partners with community and faith-based groups to advance multi-sectoral responses to the HIV/AIDS epidemic through grants, capacity building, and networking. The CORE Initiative`s overall mission is to support an inspired, effective, and inclusive response to the causes and consequences of HIV/AIDS by strengthening the capacity of community and faith-based groups in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
EQUINET AFRICA
EQUINET, the Regional Network on Equity in Health in Southern Africa, is a network of professionals, civil society members, policy makers, state officials and others within the region who have come together as an equity catalyst, to promote and realise shared values of equity and social justice in health.
International Organisation for Migration (IOM)
IOM is an international organisation working with migrants and governments to provide humane responses to migration challenges. One of the IOM’s programmes is the Partnership on HIV/AIDS and mobile populations in Southern Africa (PHAMSA). Through PHAMSA the IOM’s Regional Office for Southern Africa aims to reduce the vulnerability of mobile populations to HIV/AIDS by establishing partnerships with key organisations working on HIV/AIDS and/or mobile populations in Southern Africa.
Namibia Network of AIDS Service Organisations (NANASO)
NANASO provides a network service to its member organizations. NANASO is an affiliate member to the Southern Africa Network of AIDS Service Organisations (SANASO) – a regional body comprising of the entire 14 SADC member states Country Networks.
National AIDS coordination agency (NACA)
Formed in 1999 by a cabinet directive under the Office of the President, the National AIDS Coordinating Agency (NACA) is, charged with coordinating and facilitating Botswana’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA)
OSISA is a non-profit foundation established by investor and philanthropist George Soros. It supports national and regional projects in Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe, focusing on education, the promotion of human rights, the free flow of information and initiatives that strengthen the pursuit of an open society. It began an HIV/AIDS programme in 2005.
Panos Southern Africa AIDS Program
The Panos Southern Africa is based in Lusaka, Zambia. The programme works with media and other information actors to enable developing countries to shape and communicate their own development agendas through informed public debate; particular focus on amplifying the voices of the poor and marginalized.

Project Support Group, Zimbabwe
Assists southern African districts, municipalities, nonprofits, and faith-based partners to develop, manage, and sustain HIV/AIDS prevention and mitigation projects in priority migrant communities and areas.
Regional Centre for Quality of Health Care (RCQHC)
RCQHC is based at the Institute of Public Health, Makerere University in Uganda. The Centre provides leadership in building regional capacity to improve quality of health care by promoting evidence based practices through networking, strategic partnerships, education, training and research. Their work focuses on VCT and have helped countries in the development of National VCT guidelines. They have also developed tools for helping health workers to counsel mothers on feeding methods for PMTCT.
Regional HIV/AIDS Programme Southern Africa (RHAP SA)
RHAP targets high transmission areas at cross-border sites and implements appropriate interventions; participating countries include Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. RHAP’s strategic objective is to strengthen the response to HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa by increasing access to select HIV/AIDS services in target populations across the region; improving the quality of Mission programs to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the region and increasing participation of regional networks and institutions in combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Sante Familiale et Prevention du SIDA
A sub-regional USAID-funded project that seeks to encourage family planning, reduce infant mortality, and limit the spread of HIV/AIDS in West and Central Africa. Countries participating are Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Co´te d`Ivoire, and Togo.
Social Aspects of AIDS Research Alliance (SAHARA)
SAHARA is an alliance of partners established to conduct, support and use social sciences research to prevent further spread of HIV and mitigate impact in South Africa, the SADC region and sub-Saharan Africa.
Society for Women and AIDS in Africa (SWAA)
SWAA is the only pan-African AIDS organization working with and for women and their families based on locally determined needs and priorities. SWAA mobilizes communities by strengthening capacity to prevent, control and mitigate the impact of the epidemic. Today, SWAA is a network of 40 grassroots country offices.
Southern African AIDS Information Dissemination Service (SAfAIDS)
SAfAIDS is a regional HIV/AIDS resource whose goal is to disseminate HIV/AIDS information in order to promote, inform and support appropriate responses to the epidemic in the fields of HIV prevention, care, long-term planning and coping with the impact.
Southern African AIDS Trust (SAT)
SAT is a regional initiative that supports community responses to HIV and AIDS through in-depth partnerships with community groups in southern Africa and wider networking, skills exchange and lesson sharing throughout the region and internationally.
Southern African Development Community (SADC) HIV and AIDS Programme
SADC`s main goal in responding to the pandemic is to decrease the numbers of individuals and families infected and affected by HIV and AIDS in the region so as to ensure that HIV and AIDS is no longer a threat to public health and to the sustained socio-economic development of Member States.
Southern African Network of AIDS Service Organizations (SANASO)
Based in Harare, SANASO’s mission is to unite efforts of Non governmental organisations (NGOs) Community based organisations (CBOs) Faith based organisations (FBOs) and People living with HIV/AIDS (PWAs) and promote cooperation between Civil society and Governments in order to expand the response to HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa.

Uganda AIDS Commission
